Mirjam Ernestus elected to the KNAW Royal Academy of Arts & Sciences
Mirjam Ernestus, Professor of Psycholinguistics at Radboud University has been elected to the Dutch Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences. Academy members are prominent researchers in their field, nominated by peers from within and outside the Academy.
Ernestus investigates how speakers produce and listeners understand speech in informal conversation. She showed that existing theories of speech production and perception could not fully handle the pronunciation variation that is a regular feature of informal conversation, and developed and tested innovative new models for speech processing. The results are of great theoretical value and also have applications in second language learning and education.
