WP 7 Utilization

Antal van den Bosch is professor of Language and Speech Technology at Radboud University Nijmegen.

His research focuses on machine learning and language technology, in particular the intersection of the two fields: computers that learn to understand and generate natural language. With Walter Daelemans he pioneered the computational modeling of analogy-based, or memory-based language processing, an idea which connects well with current developments in usage-based linguistics, psycholinguistics, and neurolinguistics.

As most of his research produces software, Antal van den Bosch makes a point of maximizing the availability of this software by releasing the best software projects under open source licenses and as open web services. Examples of popular software co-developed by Van den Bosch are Timbl, Frog, and Valkuil.net. Van den Bosch is co-PI of WP7, 'Utilization'.
